Susan founded Reteriever Bookkeeping and Consulting LLC because of her passion for making small business and practice ownership easy for business owners. She has paired deep, hands-on financial operations experience with decades of veterinary practice leadership. With 30+ years spanning practice ownership, multi-site hospital management, and AAHA Practice Consultant with 500+ hospital evaluations, she’s proven in producing and interpreting monthly financial/performance reports, advising owners on staffing, cost control, and revenue growth, and building scalable payroll/HR systems as teams expand. Her track record includes achieving “well-managed practice” expense benchmarks and delivering measurable savings, making her uniquely qualified to improve financial clarity, strengthen profitability, and help owners make confident, data-driven decisions.
Why did we choose 'Retriever' for our name?
Retriever Bookkeeping reflects both Susan's professional background and her work ethic. With more than 30 years in veterinary management — along with training Labrador Retrievers as service dogs — she developed a deep respect for trustworthiness, focus, reliability, and disciplined follow-through. Those same qualities guide how she manages clients’ financial operations, emphasizing accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail. Her role is to “retrieve” what matters most within a business’s numbers, ensuring financial records are organized, dependable, and positioned to support confident decisions. While her roots are in veterinary leadership, she proudly supports service-based small businesses across industries that value clarity, structure, and a trusted financial partner.
